About

OpenGeo: an Experienced, Mission-Driven Partner. We’re a Social Enterprise working to build the best web-based geospatial technology.

Though newly established as its own social enterprise, OpenGeo has a 7-year history of providing boutique consulting services and product offerings built by the best geospatial programmers in the (open source) world. Our geospatial efforts have been funded by clients and partners like Google, the Open GeoSpatial Consortium, and Landgate since 2001. OpenGeo operates with the goal of full cost recovery, competing in the market against traditional geospatial software vendors, while remaining true to our mission.

We believe the fundamental prerequisite for solving the problems of the world is to make information as open and accessible as possible, since only a more informed and empowered populace can effect real change. The ideas, processes, and success of the open source software movement inspire us to help build a truly open Geospatial Web that can be a public infrastructure for good.

All the software we create is open source, but we are not dogmatic and routinely integrate with existing proprietary systems. Though we are mission-driven, we strive to build software that meets and exceeds the desires of clients, as we believe the market is an efficient avenue for feedback on the impact of our work.

OpenGeo is the geospatial division of The Open Planning Project (TOPP), a New York-based 501(c)(3) non-profit that functions as a high tech social incubator. All revenue has been and will continue to be reinvested into innovative and useful software in support of TOPP’s mission.

Open Source, Supported

Our commitment to open source means you can always use our past work free of charge.

There are no crippled evaluation copies so you always get a full test drive of our software.

We’ve founded and contributed to open source software projects since 2001. Over time, vibrant open source communities have grown to contribute more features, performance enhancements, and bug fixes than any one company could ever achieve alone.

Mature open source software provides the features you seek with the battle-tested performance you need.
