Andreas Hocevar

Geospatial Solutions Engineer

Andreas made first contact with geospatial software 20 years ago as a student of Urban and Regional Planning at the Vienna University of Technology. Starting as desktop GIS user, he developed plugins for better thematic mapping as part of his master's thesis. After some years working as a planner, he went back to geospatial software.

As an OpenLayers Project Steering Committee member and core committer, he is known for contributing major improvements to vector rendering and adding support for the latest commercial mapping APIs and tile services. As a founder of GeoExt and current member of its Project Steering Committee, he is involved in creating a rich collection of web mapping widgets based on the Open Geospatial Consortium's standards. For the GeoNode project, he guides the development of the JavaScript mapping client. Andreas also shares his knowledge teaching at the Vienna University of Technology, speaking at conferences, and training clients.
