OpenGeo for Transit

Better information is better service.

OpenGeo Transit builds on the OpenGeo Suite of web-based geospatial components to deliver applications that address the emerging needs of transit agencies.

  • Dynamic system maps offering riders the kind of legible, interactive, up-to-date information they have come to expect from service providers
  • Multi-modal trip planning that includes more parts of a transit rider’s journey, like biking
  • Service advisories, provided online and delivered over email and SMS, to help riders plan ahead and increase understanding when service is compromised
  • Social media integration to promote frequent, convenient, and timely customer interaction
  • Issue tracking tools to enlist riders in helping you maintain your system, whether by identifying abandoned bikes in your racks or vandalism in your vehicles or facilities

4 Steps to a dynamic system map

Example from http://ride.trimet.org

Prototype a map of your system. Using your agency’s own schedule data, we will create a prototype of what your system map could look like running our platform. Our staff will conduct an introductory on-site training with your team to introduce the technology.

Implement a production-ready map: We will work with your agency’s IT and GIS teams to integrate and customize the OpenGeo Suite to your agency’s specs. Since the OpenGeo Suite is fully modular and can work with your current system configuration, you can adopt only the components you need.

Develop interactive extensions to the map: For additional customization or extensions desired by riders or staff, we can work with your team to incorporate them into your dynamic map.

Support the map for a year: A Level of Service Agreement, including patches and bug fixes a for a year after the launch of your map, assures a stable, reliable, custom, dynamic map for your agency.
