New web technology and powerful handheld devices mean that web technology can be used in an “offline mode” using local resources and synchronizing with servers with connections are restored.
This task will meld OpenLayers with Google Gears or HTML5 technologies to provide persistent data storage and manipulation even when the web client is not attached to the internet.
The task will also address the issues of data synchronization once network access is returned: dealing with conflicts and providing the user the opportunity to resolve or ignore conflicted records.
The task will also address the need to pre-emptively cache a large collection of map tiles locally, and the check out and lock a collection of table/feature data needed for the offline editing workflow.
